MADASTER AND THE NATIONAL SUSTAINABILITY INSTITUTE REVEAL REAL ESTATE PERFORMANCE

Amsterdam- 19 March 2019 – Madaster and the Dutch National Sustainability Institute (NDI) are entering into a collaboration with the intention of making the real estate sector more sustainable. Today, they are signing their partnership agreement.

Madaster and the NDI are joining forces to improve the circular performance of the construction sector. Madaster is the online library of materials that, via the Madaster Circularity Indicator (CI), provides insight into the level of circularity on building and product levels. The NDI has developed the Global Sustainable Enterprise System (GSES), which quantifies and reveals sustainability performance. Because the Madaster Circularity Indicator will become available on NDI’s online GSES platform, national and international organisations will be able to obtain a complete picture of their sustainable performance, at a central location. Together, major steps can be made towards improving the circular performance of the construction sector—something that is very necessary, as the sector is responsible for around 30% of all the waste around the world. Both organisations have global ambitions; their sustainability tools can be applied on an international level.

Online GSES platform
The NDI is an independent social enterprise that offers insight into entrepreneurship with sustainable, circular and corporate social responsibility. The successful start-up visualises sustainable performances on the GSES platform. This takes place on both organisational and chain levels, but also applies to products, projects and buildings. The GSES system includes the Circular Footprint and the Environmental Footprint, which can be used to measure a building’s footprint.

Madaster Circularity Indicator
Madaster’s online library of materials can be used for generating a secure web-based material passport for any real estate object. These passports contain information about the quality and origins of materials, the degree to which a building’s individual products can be removed or dismantled and where those are located. The Madaster Circularity Indicator (CI) provides insight into the level of circularity, on both building and product level, encouraging owners, financiers, designers, suppliers, contractors and processing companies to build in a circular way.

‘The availability of the Madaster Circularity Indicator on the GSES platform not only gives a more complete overview of sustainability performances, in one central location, it also hopefully encourages national and international organisations to make circular choices on organisational, chain, product and building levels.’ Rob Oomen, Partnership Manager Madaster

‘We are very happy with this collaboration, as our two organisations complement each other. We both have international ambitions. I truly believe that we can change the world through transparency.’ Kelly Ruigrok, Managing Director NDI
