With an ambitious vision to deliver over 10,000 homes by 2035, Greencore is leading the charge towards a greener and more sustainable future. At the heart of their innovative approach is their Biond panel, which is a closed timber frame panel insulated with a mix of wood fibre, hemp and lime, which typically locks up over 30kgCO2e per square metre across the lifetime of the building. These panels are integrated into a timber frame structure, which can be erected on site in a matter of days. Greencore’s panel and timber frame systems are manufactured in their own factory in Bicester, in Oxfordshire. Modern methods of construction and the use of bio-based materials are central to Greencore being able to maintain low-embodied carbon construction.
The operational performance of Greencore’s homes is also exemplary. They build air tight, low energy homes powered by electricity which is provided through renewables on the roof of the homes, achieving a net-zero energy balance.
By partnering with Madaster, Greencore aims to create material passports for each home they build, enabling them to accurately calculate and communicate the embodied carbon of their projects. The aspiration it to ultimately link the generation of this information into the other digital processes being embedded throughout the design, manufacturing and construction processes. This data-driven approach will enable Greencore to validate and communicate their high standards of environmental performance to customers and investors alike.
Commenting on the partnership, Ness Scott of Greencore Homes said, “Joining Madaster as a Pioneer is a significant milestone for Greencore Homes as we continue our journey towards building Climate Positive places and ultra low energy homes. By leveraging Madaster’s platform, we aim to not only quantify the environmental impact of our projects but also drive forward best practice and actively promote the need for greater transparency and accountability in the construction industry.”
Madaster UK Managing Director, Andrea Charlson, remarked, “We are delighted to welcome Greencore Homes as our newest Pioneer. Their vision to create Climate Positive communities is inspiring and we are thrilled that we can help support them in achieving this. Together with our other Pioneers, Greencore Homes will play a pivotal role in shaping a low carbon, circular built environment.”
The partnership between Greencore Homes and Madaster underscores a shared commitment to driving positive change in the construction industry.
